BRASÍLIA NA MALA
Independent Cultural Platform & Editorial Project
Created in 2015, Brasília na Mala began as a personal experiment: what would happen if I traveled using only products created by local brands from Brasília?
At the time, Brasília was still predominantly recognized for its modernist architecture and political identity. Its independent creative scene existed, but remained relatively undocumented and difficult to access. Local fashion labels, artists, designers, and cultural initiatives were producing meaningful work without much visibility outside their immediate communities.
The project started with a trip to Rio de Janeiro, for which I packed an entire suitcase composed exclusively of Brasília-made products and clothing. To mark the concept visually, a local graffiti artist transformed the suitcase itself into a custom art piece.
What initially began as a social media hashtag quickly evolved into a broader editorial platform dedicated to documenting and amplifying Brasília’s emerging creative scene. Through articles, interviews, and curated features, Brasília na Mala highlighted local brands and creators across fashion, design, homeware, art, and culture.
The project became part of an important cultural moment for the city — a period in which Brasília was beginning to be recognized not only for its architecture, but also for its growing independent creative identity.
Although the original website is no longer online, the project remains an important milestone in my practice, particularly in relation to cultural research, community storytelling, and independent editorial direction.
